Oak tree sapling by John McCarthy.

Your favourite tree

There's a magnificent old hawthorn overhanging our suburban garden. It's teeming with life - flying insects, crawling insects, fungi, all kinds of birds love to shelter in its branches, squirrels chase each other around its many stems and boughs, and in the spring it shakes beautiful wafts of confetti over us. I think of old May Day traditions, girls dancing around its trunk with blossom falling, ties to fertility, love and happiness. Liz Chiu
